The Orthodox Christian church has existed since Jesus Christ established His church and the Holy Spirit descended on the Apostles at Pentecost. This is the ancient faith.
An incredible change is happening today. People are looking for the ancient church. Orthodoxy has remained virtually unchanged over the last two thousand years. Preserved in the east, waiting to be rediscovered by the west.
We are all travelers, the scripture calls us sojourners, travelers passing through a strange land, making our way home. Abraham and Jacob were sojourners before us (Gn 12:10; 32:4); Israel was sojourning in Egypt (Gn 47:4); Naomi was a sojourner in Moab (Ru 1:1). Christians, too, are sojourners (1Pt 2:11; 1Jn 2:15–17).
The time has come. Find out more, and if the Spirit moves you, then join us in this new/old age.
We are a house of prayer, and everyone is welcome. Orthodoxy is liturgical; everything we do centers on the liturgy, which is celebrated on Sunday, Holy Days, and at various times throughout the year. We also offer many other services that support the daily, seasonal, and annual cycles of prayer.
All this is designed to help bring Christ into your life, every day and every hour. You can see the full cycle of services on our website.
Orthodoxy is one faith with many different languages. We all follow the canons and the Fathers, and we have the same services. We are all Canonical, but not all are in Communion with each other. Sadly, being in communion can change at the whim of men and politics. The most recent example is the split between the Russian and Greek churches over Ukraine.
We are a small church in a small and newer jurisdiction, the Ukrainian church outside of Ukraine. Organized to help solve some of the problems created by the war in Ukraine. We are pan-orthodox, recognizing that Orthodoxy is not exclusive to any one ethnic jurisdiction. If you are a baptized and Chrismated Orthodox Christian, you are welcome to partake in all our services, including communion.
If you are baptized by us and move or decide to join a larger jurisdiction, it is most likely that they will recognize your baptism and bring you into their jurisdiction by Chrismation. That act of Chrismation brings you into their Apostolic Succession. This is the practice when you go from one jurisdiction to another, It's how things are done. In this way, we are your bridge to Orthodoxy.
We are here in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord God and Savior, to serve you, your family, and your spiritual needs. To greet you at the Divine Liturgy, to bless your home, visit you in the hospital, and bury you with Orthodox dignity. To grow together, learn together, and pray together. To consult, confess, share the sacraments, and celebrate this magnificent faith God has given to us.
When you are baptized into the Orthodox faith, you become a part of the Royal Priesthood. You are a member of the community of Orthodox Christians, united in our faith and dedicated to supporting and sharing with each other as we take this extraordinary journey home.
You are invited to take a walk through the faith and practices of the ancient church. To explore a unique way of thinking about the Christian faith that is over two thousand years old. A spiritual church. A church of prayer where the only focus is to help you bring Christ into your heart and your life. This is not a lecture; it is an interactive experience.
Over the next six weeks, we will attempt to experience what it was like to live in the early centuries of the church. The joys, challenges, and persecutions. Then we will take that understanding and that experience and see how it impacted the Christian church over the next millennium. One complaint against the Orthodox church is that it has not changed. Maybe that’s a good thing?
Next, we will explore the tools, the gifts the church uses to help us bring Christ into our lives. Feasts, fasts, prayers, images, worshiping God with our whole being. The kingdom is “everywhere present and fills all things.” Let's see how we can be a part of that kingdom.
On the last day, to thank you for walking the walk with us, we will celebrate Great Lent with you with a delicious fasting feast. It sounds strange, but it is fantastic.
So, “Come and see” and experience. It is absolutely free and open to everyone. We are a small, ancient church in a very old building here in Granbury, and space is limited.
Go to Week 1, see the agenda and sign up today while space is available.
